Time to turn the page from 2011 and explode into 2012! The energy sector is providing a major boost to Alberta’s economy. According to the CMHC forecast “Alberta’s economy growth will continue, accelerated by investments in oil sands projects and higher oil prices. Oil and gas production are getting stronger, supporting other sectors of the economy like the real estate market.”
With 31,000 people moving into Alberta in 2011 and over 34,000 expected to migrate in 2012 it is sure to impact the housing market, these individuals need a place to call home. The Red Deer and Sylvan Lake inventory levels are at their lowest we’ve seen over the past 4 years. This is good news, yet I don’t expect prices to bounce off the charts. Prices in the housing market won’t grow quickly however will take us into a much more balanced market! Expect to see a small increase in this year’s market as mortgage interest rates of 3% + are at an all-time low. Remember, these low rates will not last forever!
